ABOUT THE FAMILY
Originally from the state of Quintana Roo on the southern tip of Mexico, Raquel has lived in Puerto Peñasco for six years. Before getting married and starting a family, Raquel was attending school, but now she is dedicated to her home and her family. She enjoys cooking and all sorts of artisan crafts. Also originally from southern Mexico, the state of Oaxaca, Abdias has lived in Peñasco for the past seven years. He has worked at a variety of jobs, but for the past four years he has had steady work at a popular taqueria near the malecón. During the busy times he can earn up to $100 a week. He enjoys cooking and baking and is eager to learn the construction process so he can help other families build their homes. Raquel and Abdias have been together for three years and have one young son, Abdias Itiel who is just over one year old. Raquel’s mother, Nora also lives with them, and together they are living in a rental property. Nora helps with some child care and she also has a segunda, a small second hand store that she operates out of their home. They have been paying for their land lot, but do not have the means to construct a home by their own means. A house from 1MISSION would give this young family a place of their own where they can live securely, be free from rent payments and work together towards a stable future.
