Amparo has been part of the 1MISSION family for over ten years! She began as a hardworking and dedicated volunteer, serving countless hours helping in the base camp kitchen as she was working towards earning a home for her family. After her house was built in March 2011, Amparo continued to volunteer her time and support to the team. She began attending the sewing classes and was a quick and talented student. She now produces beautiful quilts and other products, and is also a sewing teacher and an integral part of the Community Development team. Amparo and her family lived in her 1MISSION home for eleven years, but construction nearby has caused problems with water ponding and flooding her home when it rains. Amparo made many attempts to fix the problem, but her old house became no longer safe to live in. Amparo is a single mother and still has three children at home who are attending school. Her two oldest sons also live at home and their income helps to support the family. A new home will give Amparo the security that she deserves, allowing her to continue to be a leader in her community while also knowing that she has a safe and decent home for her family.
