1MISSION | Giving people in poverty the opportunity to earn a house

February 5, 2022

As part of 1MISSION’s first ever Bikes Fight Poverty: 1DAY event, extreme cyclists will ride 200 miles in one epic day – all the way from Goodyear, Arizona to 1MISSION’s basecamp in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. We do this for one inspiring purpose: giving families in poverty access to safe, secure housing.

Join our double century ride where you’ll leave before sunrise and cross the finish line before dusk. This one's definitely not for the faint of heart!

Deadline: January 3, 2022

What to Expect

Over the course of one long, thrilling day, you will ride from Goodyear, Arizona all the way to 1MISSION’s basecamp in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico. One day, two countries, 200 miles.

In the early morning hours, you’ll ride through beautiful farmland and across the historic Gillespie Dam Bridge. After passing through Gila Bend, you’ll continue on to the old mining town of Ajo, where we'll have lunch for you. From there, you’ll ride through the beautiful Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument and across the border into Mexico. Then it’s smooth sailing to the finish line at 1MISSION’s basecamp just outside of Puerto Peñasco.

What’s Included

While you won't totally be on your own, you mostly will! 1MISSION will provide breakfast on launch morning as well as lunch in Ajo. This is also where you’ll be able to pick up any pre-arranged articles given to us at launch and drop off anything you’d like us to deliver to basecamp. We will also have medics along the route to ensure that the ride is as safe as possible.

Once you arrive at 1MISSION’s basecamp in Mexico, you’ll be greeted by friendly faces at a celebratory dinner. Housing will be available in our bunkhouse, as well as tent spots and RV hookups if you prefer. We will also provide a hearty breakfast on Sunday morning.

And of course, you’ll be outfitted in our swanky 2022 Bikes Fight Poverty jersey! (Must register by December 7, 2021 in order to receive your jersey in time for the ride.)

You are welcome to stay and cheer on the 2DAY riders when they arrive at basecamp Sunday afternoon. If you choose to stay, we’ll provide lunch, dinner, and housing for you on Sunday night as well as breakfast and transportation back to Phoenix on Monday morning.

What’s Not Included

  • A bike
  • A helmet
  • Aid stations
  • Support and gear (SAG)
  • Bedding and camping gear for overnights
  • Transportation back to Phoenix Saturday or Sunday

Fees and Fundraising

We take pride in ensuring that Bikes Fight Poverty events are safe, fun, and well-supported. We want you to enjoy yourself! But 1MISSION isn’t an events company. We’re a community development organization giving people in poverty the opportunity to earn a house by serving their community.

So when you register to ride in a Bikes Fight Poverty event, you’re committing to fundraise for families in need. That’s what makes this event so meaningful for everyone involved!

The cost to participate is $250 and is due at the time of registration.

You will also be responsible for a $1,000 fundraising minimum, with these donations from your family and friends going to support 1MISSION’s projects and programs in the field. Does the idea of fundraising sound scary? Don’t worry, we’re pros at this. Our fundraising coach will provide you helpful tips and tools to help you meet and exceed your fundraising goal before the event.
